UK food regulator increases scrutiny on Indian spices amid concerns over contaminant

Britain is now tightening scrutiny of ALL Indian spice imports after several countries raised alarm over possible contaminants in two major spice brands' products.

China deploys ships to block a civilian led Philippine protest flotilla

INTRO: A large flotilla formed as part of Philippine civilian-led supply mission had to turn back from reaching a shoal in the South China Sea, while a smaller group delivered food and fuel to Filipino fishermen, despite being shadowed by Chinese vessels.

The Scarborough Shoal is a prime fishing patch and China claims sovereignty over the shoal and almost all the South China Sea, including parts claimed by the Philippines.

China jails Hokkaido University professor for espionage

The family of a Chinese national being held on espionage charges says a received a jail sentenced from a court in Jilin province.


Yuan Keqin was detained in 2019 when he returned to China while holding a post at Japan’s University of Education in Hokkaido.

New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez blames his wife for his legal woes

New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez' legal team says his wife was
largely to blame for the bribes.
Menendez is on trial in New York and is accused of conspiring and
taking lucrative bribes, including gold bars, cash and about 60
thousand dollars to purchase a convertible for his wife.
Both the Senator and his wife have been charged but in a new
development on Thursday, Menendez announced that his wife has breast
cancer.

US finishes building floating pier near Gaza to help deliver aid

The United States military has finished building a large floating pier off the coast of Gaza in an attempt to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in the war-torn strip. 


The plan — first announced by President Joe Biden two months ago — will see ships carry aid from the Mediterranean island of Cyprus to a dock in the sea, then transferred on boats to a port and onto lorries for distribution.


It was supposed to be operational weeks ago, but construction was fraught with logistical, weather and security challenges.
