US vetoes Palestine's bid to join UN
Palestine has not been admitted to the United Nations as a full member, following a Security Council vote.
On Thursday, the United States vetoed the bid - as was widely expected.
Twelve nations in the 15-member council voted for the resolution, and two countries - the United Kingdom and Switzerland, abstained.
Earlier, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said six months of war has made Gaza a "humanitarian hellscape" and repeated calls for a ceasefire.

Congress mulls over foreign aid bills for Israel and Ukraine
Lawmakers in the United States are discussing a new set of foreign aid bills which Congressional leaders are hoping to pass this weekend.
They include roughly $95 billion worth of spending to support Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan — as well as providing humanitarian relief to Gaza.
Pressure to approve the funding has intensified following Iran's airstrikes on Israel last week. On Thursday, the US unveiled sanctions against the Iranian regime.

UNSC to vote on Palestinian membership on Thursday
full membership at the world body on Thursday.
The meeting is expected to take place at 5PM New York time.
A council resolution will need at least nine votes in favor and no
vetoes by the U.S., Britain, France, Russia or China to pass.
However, the United States has indicated that it'll use its veto to
block the move.
Speaking to reporters, the US' Deputy Ambassador Robert Wood insisted
that full membership of Palestine should happen through direct
negotiations between the parties and not at the United Nations.
