N Korea says US drills pushing region towards nuclear war

North Korea is blasting joint US and South Korea military drills as pushing tensions to the brink of nuclear war. 

The two defense partners have expanded war games in the region in an effort to deter Pyongyang’s missile launches.

Mixed close on Wall Street with labor market in focus

It was a mixed close for the U.S. markets Wednesday as investors
digest fresh jobs data.

Private sector employment numbers came in weaker than expected fueling
fears that the country may be heading towards a recession.

US House Speaker meets Tawain's President in California

U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has met Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen in California, becoming the most senior U.S. official to meet a Taiwanese leader on U.S. soil since 1979.


The meeting - which also included a bipartisan group of lawmakers - went ahead despite threats of retaliation from China, which claims self-ruled Taiwan as its own.


Mr McCarthy said he hoped the meeting could promote 'democracy, peace and stability'.

J&J offering nearly $9B to end litigation on claims talc causes cancer

Johnson & Johnson is offering $8.9 billion dollars in settlement to tens of thousands of people who say they got cancer from their talcum powder.

Texas-sized sinkhole expanding as residents get ready to flee

A massive sinkhole in Texas - which had been stable for 15 years - is growing and threatening nearby buildings and homes. Officials in the small Liberty County town of Dasisetta say they were made aware of the situation on Sunday - and that residents have been notified - some of whom are ready to flee.

Taliban bans UN women staff members in Afghanistan

The Taliban has banned women from working at the United Nations in Afghanistan, according to UN officials.


Since the Islamic fundamentalist group returned to power in 2021, women's access to public life has been restricted.


The UN called the move a 'violation of the inalienable fundamental human rights of women'. 


The Taliban says it respects women's rights in accordance with its strict interpretation of Islamic law.

India abstains from voting on UNHRC resolution on Russia's alleged war crimes

Finland is officially the 31st member of NATO

Finland is officially the 31st member of NATO.

The security alliance welcomed the Nordic nation to the fold by raising its flag in Brussels for the first time.

The move elicited an angry response from Russia, which now sees its border with NATO increase by about twofold.

It has threatened "countermeasures" as it has long been critical of the alliance's eastward expansion.

Ahead of Finland's accession the US ambassador to NATO Julianne Smith said it was one of the main talking points for the 2 day meeting of foreign ministers  that's currently underway.
