British nurses announce fresh strike dates

Nurses in the UK have announced two further days of strikes in January. It follows the first nationwide walkouts in history by nurses in December, which failed to bring the government to the negotiating table. Julia Chapman has more.

Armed Forces personnel keep airports running as Border Force staff strike

The British Military has been brought in to help cover Border Force staff who are on strike across the UK.


Passport and security staff have walked out of several airports as well as a port in a dispute over pay, pensions and layoffs.


The industrial action is due to continue over Christmas at a busy period for the travel industry.

Uganda Attacks Displace 8000

UK BORDER FORCE STAFF BEGIN STRIKES

UK Border Force staff are beginning several days of strike action between now and the end of the year.

Public and Commercial Services Union members are walking out over pay in the civil service.

The government's drafted in soldiers and other staff to conduct some border checks but is warning arrivals to the UK of possible delays.

China expected to relax Covid quarantine and border measures

Scottish lawmakers to vote on controversial transgender legislation

Lawmakers in Scotland are due to decide whether to make it easier for people to change their legally recognised gender.


The final vote was delayed after debates in the Scottish Parliament overran on Wednesday.


The Gender Recognition Reform Scotland Bill removes the need for a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria in order to receive a gender recognition certificate.


It also lowers the minimum age for applicants from 18 to 16 and reduces the time required for people to live in their acquired gender to three months. 


It's one of the most controversial bills in Holyrood in decades, as Sally Patterson reports.
