Indian TV channels to mandatorily broadcast "national interest" program from January 1: Report

Intro:

Come January 1, the Indian government will reportedly make it mandatory for TV channels to broadcast 30 minutes of content that's in "national interest."

Officials have identified eight themes on which the channels can produce their programs – including education, health and national integration.

EU ministers mull trade retaliation over US green subsidies

European Union trade ministers are meeting for talks on how to respond to US legislation which they say distorts fair competition.


The US Inflation Reduction Act -- aimed at accelerating the green transition -- offers tax cuts to US electric vehicle producers. Brussels says that disadvantages European automakers like Volkswagen or Renault, and could tempt manufacturers to relocate production to the US. 


Ministers are mulling measures including retaliatory subsidies and action at the World Trade Organisation.

UK promises ambulances and funding to Ukraine

The UK will send 24 ambulances to Ukraine and a multi-million pound support package to rebuild infrastructure destroyed in Russian attacks.


During a trip to Kyiv, Foreign Secretary James Cleverly met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to offer what he called the UK's 'unwavering support'.


This follows a visit by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak earlier this week, who announced a fifty million pound package of defensive military support.

NURSES SET STRIKE DATES IN UK

Dates have been set for the biggest strikes by nurses in England, Wales and Northern Ireland in history.

The Royal College of Nursing says industrial action over pay will take place on 15th and 20th December.

In a joint letter, several influential groups called on ministers to withdraw its Retained EU Law bill, warning it would put vital protections at risk.
