GLOBAL CLIMATE TARGETS SLIPPING FROM REACH: UN CHIEF

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has warned the warming limit of 1.5 degrees Celsius agreed in the 2015 Paris climate accord is slipping further out of reach.

His warning came during a set of high level climate talks taking place in Berlin.

UK braces for record-breaking heat


The UK is expected to see its hottest ever temperature this week, with thermometers set to rise over 40 degrees Celsius.

As a result, the national weather service - the Met Office - has issued its first Red warning for exceptional heat.

Uganda Refugee Response Operations Gets $21m From United States

Uvalde school shooting report highlights "systemic failures".

A new report into May's mass shooting at Robb Elementary school in Uvalde Texas which killed 21 people, has found "systemic failures" in the overall response.

U.S. House passes bills to restore abortion access

Lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives passed two bills on Friday to protect a woman's access to abortion.

But neither has the votes necessary to advance in the Senate.

US House of Reps to discuss ban on assault weapons

A US House of Representatives committee has announced it'll meet next week to discuss banning assault weapons.


The bill would forbid "the sale, import, manufacture or transfer" of certain semi-automatic rifles.

Court Declares Nigerian Twitter Ban As Unlawful

The Nigerian government banning Twitter for 7 months was unlawful, according to a new judgment.

 

A court of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has also warned  against a repeat of the suspension.

 

The site was blocked in Nigeria from June 2021 until January of this year.
