Hong Kong police investigate fire that caused widespread blackout

Hong Kong police are investigating the cause of a fire that led to a blackout of more than 150 thousand households. The blaze was started by high-voltage power cables, and is causing  widespread disruptions to public services.

South Korea, Singapore report first cases of monkeypox

South Korea and Singapore have both reported cases of monkeypox, health authorities said on Tuesday.

The viral disease causes symptoms typically ranging from fever to muscle ache and skin rash, and has been confirmed in at least 41 countries.

US "appalled" by Russian threat to execute Americans captured in Ukraine

The US government says it is "appalling" that a top Kremlin official has suggested two Americans, captured by the Russians while fighting with Ukrainian forces in Kharkiv, might receive the death penalty.


The threat was made by President Putin's spokesman in an interview with a US TV network.


The whereabouts of the two men is unclear.

Texas Public Safety Director describes police response to Uvalde shooting as "an abject failure".

"An abject failure". That's how the head of Texas's Department of Public Safety described the police response to last month's elementary school shooting in Uvalde texas.

Colonel Steven McCraw was testifying in front of a State Senate hearing about his office's investigation into the attack which killed 19 children and 2 teachers.

Top Texas cop says police response to Uvalde shooting was "abject failure"

The most senior commander of police in Texas has described local law enforcement's response to last month's massacre at an elementary school in Uvalde as an "abject failure".


Steve McCraw, the Director of the Department of Public Safety has told members of the Texas Senate that children's lives were put needlessly at risk by a local commander who put the lives of officers first.


The testimony appeared to shock members of the Texas Senate who are leading one of several inquiries into the botched police response to the shooting at the Robb Elementary School.

French president rejects prime minister's offer to resign after election losses

The French president has rejected an offer by his prime minister to resign.

Gunmen who kidnapped worshippers from two churches in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, North West Nigeria, have reportedly demanded over $200 thousand as ransom.
