Olympic gold medalist Sunisa Lee says a group pepper sprayed and shouted racist slurs at her and friends in Los Angeles.

There's been a surge in anti Asian-American hate since the pandemic.

Biden & APEC leaders commit to Covid and climate cooperation

Airlines bow to pressure from EU on migrant routes to Belarus


The state airline of Belarus is banning Iraqi, Syrian and Yemeni travellers from its flights from Turkey to Minsk.

Nearly 600 million Africans lack access to electric power- a number likely to increase by 30 million due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

80 percent of the population in the Democratic Republic of Congo, could still lack access to electricity by 2030.

Yet, as the world weighs up the impact of climate change, international institutions are now limiting investment in electric power projects in Africa, to wind and solar energy, to address environmental concerns.

While the move away from fossil fuels is crucial to combat climate change, the need for electricity in Africa is also overwhelming.

One young Congolese entrepreneur has now set his sights on trying to achieve both those goals.

COP 26 TALKS INTO FINAL DAY

Negotiators at Cop26 are under growing pressure to agree a global climate deal on the final day of talks in Glasgow.

A newly-published draft agreement warns of the need for "rapid, deep and sustained" action to limit temperature rises.

The climate summit is due to end on Friday but could be extended.

US judge approves $626 million settlement for Flint water crisis victims

A US judge has given final approval of a $626 million settlement for people affected by the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

Texas’ ban on mask mandates in schools overturned

A federal judge has blocked a ban on mask mandates in Texas schools, saying it violates the rights of students with disabilities.

In May, Republican Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order banning masks in state-funded institutions - including schools and universities -  kicking off a firestorm of disputes over mask-wearing policies, not just in Texas but across the U.S.

Covid cases rise 10% in Europe in first week of November

Coronavirus deaths in Europe rose 10 percent in the first week of this month, according to new figures from the World Health Organisation. 

Deaths in the region rose by up over half of the near 50,000 deaths reported globally in that time.
