Germany continues to see a major spike in new Covid-19 cases, with health authorities warning the country's vaccination rates need to be higher to arrest the new surge.

Australian states reach 80 percent vaccination point

In a significant vaccine milestone expected to be reached by the end of the day, 80 percent of Australians aged 16 and over will have been fully vaccinated against Covid.

Owen Paterson resigns as British MP

A British MP has resigned amid a row over his conduct which led to a major government u-turn.

Owen Paterson was found to have "egregiously" broken lobbying rules and was facing suspension, until his Conservative Party colleagues controversially blocked it.

Downing Street then reversed its decision to block the suspension following a furious backlash.

Mr Paterson says he now wants a life "outside the cruel world of politics," and there'll be a by-election to replace him in his constituency, which he's represented since 1997.

Vaccine mandate deadline set for Jan. 4

Private sector companies in the United States have been given a January 4th deadline to make sure their workforces are either fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or being tested for the virus weekly.

The Biden administration has also unveiled new emergency requirements for certain healthcare workers.

UK becomes first country to approve “game-changing” Covid treatment

The first pill designed to treat Covid-19 has been approved in the UK.
