Calls to delay UK reopening after spike in Covid cases

The lifting of coronavirus restrictions in the UK should be delayed, according to some of the country's leading scientists. 

The fourth and final stage of the government's roadmap out of lockdown is scheduled to take place on 21st June.

But there are growing doubts over whether Prime Minister Boris Johnson will be able to stick by that date, amid warnings of a third wave of Covid-19, as Benji Hyer reports from London.

The pass forms a key part of the bloc's plans to reopen international travel.

Several scientists advising the UK government say a planned further easing of restrictions this month should be delayed because of the spread of the India-discovered covid variant.

3000 coronavirus cases have now been reported for six days in a row.

However, many Conservative MPs say the country's vaccine rollout means unlocking the economy should go ahead on June 21st because hospitalisations and fatalities remain low.
