India's daily Covid-19 infections dip to lowest rise since mid-April

India has posted its lowest daily rise in daily Covid-19 infections since mid-April, with 196,427 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, according to figures from the health ministry.

The country in recent weeks has been battling a massive second wave of infections, putting enormous strain on its healthcare system. On Tuesday, India recorded more than 3,500 Covid-19 deaths.

Beijing's vaccine-offer sparks fury in Taiwan

Indian police raids Twitter office in Delhi

Police teams in India's capital New Delhi raided the offices of Twitter in connection with the social media giant labelling a ruling party leader's tweet as 'manipulated media'.

India's Information Technology ministry had asked Twitter to remove the label last week. The opposition has called this an 'intimidation' tactic.

US Slaps Sanction on Ethiopia

The United States has imposed sanctions on Ethiopia following the continued fighting in the Northern region, Tigray.

It says parties to the conflict have not made a meaningful effort to end hostilities in the region or engage in peaceful resolution.

The Government of Prime minister Abiy Ahmed launched a military operation in the Tigray region in November 2020, against forces loyal to Tigray People Liberation Front. Six months later a conflict continues, and a major humanitarian crisis is affecting over 4 million people in the area.

Chorus of condemnation after plane diverted to Belarus to arrest journalist

Several European countries have condemned the Belarussian government for diverting a plane to arrest Belarusian journalist Roman Protasevich.


Flight FR4978, bound for Lithuania from Greece, was forced by a fighter jet to land in Minsk, in what the EU's executive is calling a "hijacking." 


Belarus claimed there was a bomb threat on board, but no explosives were found.
