EU SANCTIONS CHINESE OFFICIALS - AND CHINA HITS BACK

The European Union has announced sanctions against officials it believes have seriously violated human rights around the world.

It singled out ten of the highest ranking officers in the Myanmar military for their part in a recent coup.

And imposed restrictions on eleven officials from China, North Korea, Russia and other countries.

Putin calls for acceleration of vaccine rollout

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for the country to ramp up its COVID-19 vaccine rollout, but stressed that inoculation was a 'personal decision'. In a televised meeting, he said he planned to get his first jab on Tuesday. Julia Chapman reports from Moscow.

US trial of AstraZeneca shot confirms it is safe and highly effective

The highly anticipated results of a U.S. trial of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine confirm the shot is safe and 79 per cent effective.

More than 32,000 volunteers took part in the study in America, Chile and Peru- and concluded there are no safety concerns involving blood clots. 


The news follows a recent EU pause to the AstraZeneca vaccine amid concerns about a possible link, which has been categorically refuted now by the EU’s own regulators.

Weekend vaccination rates fall in Germany compared to week prior

The German Ministry for Health has released its latest vaccine data, revealing just over 9% of the German population have been given a jab.

Covid-19 infections continue to rise in India

US and China wrap up "tough and direct" talks in Alaska
