Italy blocks export of 250,000 AstraZeneca doses to Australia

Italy has blocked an export of 250,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine to Australia, in a move approved by the European Commission. 

Australia has asked the EU's executive arm to review the decision.

It's the first time EU vaccine export controls have been used to block a shipment.

US governor's aides altered report to downplay elderly death toll

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's aides rewrote a report to cover up
the high number of Covid-19 related deaths among elderly residents in
care homes.

According to documents, advisers reduced the death toll figure by more
than 3,000.

Australia – Federal Court dismisses pelvic mesh appeal

Australia's federal court has dismissed an appeal by drug company Johnson & Johnson over the $2.6 million dollar judgement awarded to Australian women injured by faulty vaginal mesh implants.


The company was ordered to pay damages to three women in March last year.

Nasdaq turns negative for the year after another day of losses

France extends weekend lockdown measure as Covid-19 cases increase

A third national Covid-19 lockdown is not "impossible', according to the French prime minister, who was speaking as the French government once again ruled out bringing in another nationwide confinement at the moment.


But France has imposed a weekend lockdown in the northern region around Calais. The southern city of Nice and the northern port of Dunkirk are already under the measure of Saturday-Sunday lockdowns, due to the flare-up in cases in both places.

Consumers, food services threw out 931 million tonnes of food in 2019 - UN report

An estimated 931 million tonnes of food were thrown out in 2019, according to the new Food Waste Index from the United Nations.
