Australia – Fruit crop in trouble due to worker shortage

With favourable conditions expected to deliver a bumper crop, Australia's apple and pear growers fear they may not be able to complete the harvest due to covid inspired travel shutdowns.

Traditionally, much of the picking is done by international workers, primarily made up of backpackers, but travel restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic means that section of the workforce is unavailable.

Joe Biden unveils 1.9 trillion dollar relief plan

Joe Biden has unveiled a 1.9 trillion dollar emergency relief package to tackle the coronavirus pandemic and support the US's struggling economy.

 

He's called it the American Rescue Plan and it includes a direct payment of $1400 dollars for most Americans.

Hong Kong boosts efforts to counter US "Made in China" order

Hong Kong is stepping up its efforts to overturn a US move to force the city's exporters to re-label their goods as "Made in China". 

The US says Hong Kong is no longer autonomous enough from China to warrant a "Hong Kong" brand. But the Hong Kong government says that's a violation of global trade rules.

U.S. Jobless claims hit highest level since August

The U.S. has seen a spike in weekly jobless claims as Covid-19

New rules for international travelers to England delayed
