Australia – PM overreacted to Chinese tweet

China's deputy ambassador to Australia says Prime Minister Scott Morrisons reaction to an inflammatory tweet by a Chinese official may have further damaged relations between the two countries.


Wang Xining told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that Mr Morrison, in calling for an apology from China for the tweet, has caused more chinese people to be aware of the contents of the Brereton Report into alleged Australian war crimes in Afghanistan.

S. Korea reports nine-month high of daily virus cases

South Korea has reported its highest daily total of Covid-19 infections in nearly nine months. The government says the spike, especially in the Seoul area, is a sign a much bigger wave is going to hit the country.

Hong Kong former opposition lawmaker flees city to avoid prosecution

Legal experts in Hong Kong say the city's courts may tighten bail conditions for anti-government activists, after a prominent former opposition lawmaker announced he had fled the city to avoid prosecution. 

Former Democratic Party legislator Ted Hui made the announcement from Denmark, and said he would go to the UK soon.

California is set to impose stay at home orders where intensive care units are close to filling up. 

This comes as cases and hospitalisations are soaring in the state, and the city of Los Angeles has imposed its own stay at home order.

Former French president Valery Giscard d’Estaing dies at the age of 94

The former French president Valery Giscard d'Estaing (PRON: Zhis-car Destang) has died at the age of 94.

He served as president from 1974-1981 and he was noted for socially liberal policies. He served in WWII and at 48 was the youngest president until current leader Emmanuel Macron was elected.

Belgium sets inoculation start date
