Non-essential shops reopen in Belgium as coronavirus infections decline

Non-Essential shops are reopening in Belgium on Tuesday after a month's closure. 

Restaurants, bars, cafes and gym are remaining closed until the new year. 

It comes as Belgium's coronavirus figures continue to improve.

UK MPs TO VOTE ON COVID TIERS

UK MPs will vote later (Tuesday approx 1900GMT) on a toughened set of tiered covid-19 restrictions, to replace a national lockdown for England.

Over 55 million people are set to enter the two most stringent tiers on Wednesday.

Dozens of Conservative MPs have indicated they'll vote against the measures.

Opposition Labour says it will abstain, which means the vote is set to pass.

Cabinet minister Michael Gove says the new tiers are necessary as lockdown expires.

Virus measures to add $960 million to Tokyo Olympic bill

India imposes new COVID19 rules despite drop in cases

The Indian government has imposed new COVID19 guidelines that will stay in place till the end of the year.

The new set of restrictions come even as the country's infection count in November was the lowest in four months and the number of deaths reported also fell sharply for the first time in five months.

Weak end to stellar month on Wall Street

Wall Street has posted its biggest monthly gain since 1987 as Covid-19
vaccine hopes have given traders a shot in the arm.

UNDP facing corruption and fraud allegations - FT Report

The United Nations Development Programme is facing several allegations of fraud and corruption tied to a multibillion-dollar climate investment facility, according to a draft report seen by the Financial Times.


The document purportedly describes financial misstatements worth million dollars across the UNDP's portfolio of projects funded by what's known as the Global Environment Facility.

Divided US Congress returns with coronavirus aid and government funding unresolved

UN says more than 100 killed in Boko Haram attack in Nigeria

Tanzania’s environmental management body calls for alternatives for plastic as December plastic ban looms closer

As the  December 31st  deadline for plastic packaging draws closer the National Environment Management Council has called for interested parties to present their views and advice to the Tanzania Bureau of Standards for alternative packing options.

India's Serum Institute files defamation suit of 13 million USD against a volunteer

A leading Indian vaccine manufacturer says it will file a defamation suit for 13 million USD against a volunteer who took part in a coronavirus vaccine trial.
