US markets extend losses as Covid cases rise, economic outlook uncertain


Wall Street took a beating Thursday as coronavirus cases spike across the country and as the US announced new restrictions to curb the spread, with the Dow down more than 400 points.


A decline in the number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits did little to lift sentiment.

Ethiopia revokes amnesty of some leaders

The ongoing crisis in Ethiopia pitting the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, against separatists in the country's northern Tigray region, is deepening.

Last week, the government put the country into a state of emergency, after the prime minister launched a military operation to suppress an alleged armed rebellion there.

UK GDP increases in third quarter

The UK's economy has bounced back from recession with a record quarterly growth of 15.5%.
