UK PM TO ANNOUNCE NEW TIERED COVID RESTRICTIONS

A new tiered local lockdown system will be announced later (Monday) by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

English regions will be put into medium, high, or very high alert levels depending on their covid-19 infection rates.

The highest level is expected to include further restrictions on gyms and pubs.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden says the new system is designed to avoid the need for a second national lockdown.

India's COVID19 tally crosses 7 million

India's total confirmed coronavirus cases has crossed the 7 million mark. The only other country to reach that mark is the United States.

However, India has seen a dip in daily infections with authorities calling that an encouraging sign.

Chinese patrol ships enter Japan’s territorial waters

For the 18th time this year, Chinese government ships have entered Japan's territorial waters off the disputed Senkaku islands. Grace Lee reports.

According to the Japanese coast guard,


Two Chinese patrol ships entered the waters on Sunday - 


And have repeatedly been trying to approach a Japanese fishing boat.


The coast guard has issued warnings to the vessels to leave immediately.


This is the first time since August 28th that Chinese ships have entered these waters…


The Senkaku - or Daioyu - islands are currently under Japanese administration - 


Although their sovereignty is claimed by both,


China and Taiwan as well.


It's becoming an increasingly contentious issue for Tokyo's relationship with Beijing.

UK EMPLOYEES TO RECEIVE TWO-THIRDS PAY IF EMPLOYER FORCED TO CLOSED

UK employees will be paid two-thirds of their wages by the government — if their place of employment is forced to shut because of coronavirus restrictions.

DRC REBEL ATTACK VILLAGE IN BENI

At least 5 people have been killed and several others taken hostage by suspected rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
