EU predicts deeper recession than previous forecasts, with slower recovery

The EU Commission has slashed its economic forecast, as the coronavirus takes its toll on the bloc's 27 economies. 

The region is predicted to contract by 8.3% this year, worse than the 7.4% predicted in the spring.

PUBS CLOSE IN ENGLAND AFTER COVID-19 CASES

Several pubs in England are closing their doors - just days after reopening - because of positive tests for coronavirus.

Pubs in Somerset, West Yorkshire and Gosport are now contacting customers who came through their doors over the weekend.

Bars and restaurants in England were allowed to reopen with strict conditions in place, after having been closed since March.

Jess from the  Lighthouse Kitchen and Carvery in Burnham-on-Sea says they're temporarily closing again because of a positive test from a customer who came in.

Rebels Kill 11 People in North East DR Congo

INTRO:

At least 11 people have been killed in an attack by rebels in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo. 

The attack was carried out in the village of Djugu over the weekend. The region has had a surge in violence between rival ethnic groups since March this year.

Uber buys Postmates in $2.65b deal

Uber has agreed on a deal to buy food delivery company Postmates in an all-stock deal.

EU Commission refuses to apologise after accusations of meddling in Croatia's elections

The President of the European Commission has been reported to the bloc's ombudsman, after being accused of meddling in the affairs of an EU member state.

Ghana’s President in isolation over COVID-19 fears.

Ghana's President Nana Akufo-Addo is in self-isolation after coming into contact with at least one person within his close circle who has tested positive for Covid-19. UK IMPOSING SANCTIONS ON "HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSERS"

The UK is imposing sanctions on people it believes have committed human rights abuses around the world.

Paris's Louvre museum partially re-opens after 16-week closure

The Louvre, the world's most-visited museum, is re-opening to the public today/on Monday, after a 16-week shutdown due to the pandemic.


Visitors will have to book online, wear a mask and follow strict directions inside the museum, which is keeping a third of its collection closed off for now.
