US unemployment rate jumps to a staggering 14.7 per cent

20.5 million Americans lost their jobs in April, pushing the U.S. unemployment rate up to 14.7 per cent- that’s according to the U.S. Labor Department.

The shocking jobless numbers are at their highest level since the Great Depression- a direct result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Tightly-restricted VE Day in France as coronavirus lockdown remains in place

France is marking Victory in Europe day but with scaled-down ceremonies, with no major parades due to the ongoing lockdown.

France is one of the only countries that's made the day marking the surrender of Nazi Germany in the Second World War a public holiday.

Trump and Putin discuss arms control on VE Day

US President Donald Trump has called for arms control that includes both Russia and China, when an existing deal with Russia expires next year. Gas leak in Indian claims 11 lives

Two men charged in fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery

A father and son have been arrested in relation to the death of an unarmed black man in Georgia.

Markets up as pace of unemployment benefit claims slows

In bombshell announcement, Justice Department drops case against Gen. Michael Flynn

The US Justice Department is dropping the prosecution of General Michael Flynn, President Trump's former National Security Adviser who pleaded guilty to charges of lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian officials.

General Flynn resigned from the Trump administration in February 2017, after also being accused of lying to Vice President Mike Pence about his communications with the Russian Ambassador to the United States.
