The US Justice Department is dropping the prosecution of General Michael Flynn, President Trump's former National Security Adviser who pleaded guilty to charges of lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian officials.
General Flynn resigned from the Trump administration in February 2017, after also being accused of lying to Vice President Mike Pence about his communications with the Russian Ambassador to the United States.
President Trump has for years accused the FBI of engaging in a witch-hunt against General Flynn, and our Washington Correspondent Simon Marks says the dropping of the case will raise questions about the independence of the Justice Department.
