RYANAIR TO CUT 3000 JOBS, HEATHROW PASSENGERS DOWN 97%

Ryanair says it may cut up to 3000 jobs because of the coronavirus.

The airline expects to report losses of around $100m for the first quarter.

Meanwhile London's Heathrow Airport says it expects passenger numbers to be down around 97% for April.

CEO John Holland-Kaye says flying may look very different once travel restrictions start to be eased.

S. Korea's exports plunge 24.3 percent amid Covid-19 outbreak

South Korea's exports have plunged nearly 25 percent because of the Covid-19 outbreak and falling oil prices. It's a grim sign for an economy built around the strength of its exports, from tech to cars.

Trump says he's considering tariffs against China over coronavirus

President Trump says he's considering using tariffs against China over the coronavirus.

Speaking to reporters at the White House he also claimed said he'd seen evidence that the virus originated in a lab in China.

Standoff in Michigan as protestors storm legislature

Losses on Wall Street following ugly jobs data

U.S. stocks tumbled on Thursday following news that 3.8 million
Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week. That brings the
total to over 30 million since the pandemic began.

Ghanaian University develops test kit for COVID-19

A Ghanaian university has developed a rapid test kit for detecting the coronavirus. It comes as the country continues to record increasing cases of COVID-19. Ghana's infections are now more than two thousand.   The new test kit is expected to help the country do rapid tests for the virus.

Consumer Spending: Steepest Monthly Decline

The US Commerce Department is reporting the steepest monthly decline in consumer spending since 1959, when it began keeping records.
The decline occurred primarily in the second half of March, as COVID-19 stay at home orders went into effect.

AUSTRALIA: Canberra down to zero COVID-19 cases

The Australian Capital Territory is celebrating zero active cases of coronavirus for the first time in almost two months.
The daily update on the territory's response to the virus revealed no new cases had been reported and no cases were active.

'Most' EU countries said to support suspension of flight refund rules

Most EU states are said to support the temporary suspension the law on refunded cancelled flights to reduce pressure on the struggling airline industry. 

Twelve governments have urged the European Commission to suspend rules which offer full refunds instead of vouchers for future travel.

Coronavirus pandemic plunges French economy into worst slump since WWII

France is officially in the worst recession since the Second World War, according to data from the national statistics agency released on Thursday.
