Islamic State claims Russia New Year attack

The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for a New Year's attack in southern Russia. A police officer was killed when two men carried out a car and knife attack. Julia Chapman has more.

German factory activity shrinks for 12th straight month

Protestors pull out of U.S. embassy compound in Baghdad


Iran-backed protestors have withdrawn from the U.S. embassy compound in Iraq's capital, Baghdad.

The embassy was attacked on Tuesday after U.S. air strikes on Iran-backed militia in Iraq and Syria.

Refugees Cross to Uganda over Tribal Clashes in DR Congo

Fresh ethnic violence in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has forced hundreds to seek safety in Uganda.

Austria's Sebastian Kurz strikes unlikely coalition deal with Greens

Austria's centre-right People's Party has struck an unlikely coalition with the Greens following three months of tough negotiations. 

It returns Chancellor Sebastian Kurz to power, and installs the left-wing Green Party in government for the first time. 

The September election was called after a corruption scandal that brought an end to the previous coalition with the far-right Freedom Party.

Snow at last in Moscow after December temperature record

Deadly flooding hits Indonesia's capital

New Year's Eve revellers waiting for fireworks were hit by torrential rain which caused the worst flooding since 2013. Rainfall three times higher than avenge has soaked the capital causing 16 deaths and destruction across the city.

India plans its third moon mission

India has announced plans for its third moon mission, just months after its last one failed to land on the lunar surface.  

India in September tried to put a rover on the moon, which would have made it only the fourth country to land on the moon, but it crash landed.

AUSTRALIA: Royal Australian Navy delivering supplies to bushfire victims

The bushfire summer continues in Australia with the defence forces now stepping in to help in the nation's south east.

China's Tencent acquires 10% of Universal for almost $3.4bn

Chinese tech company Tencent has agreed to buy a 10% stake in Universal Music for $3.36 billion dollars.

Uber and Postmates Sue California Over Gig Law, Claiming it as Unconstitutional
