BRITISH BORDER FORCE RESCUES 49 MIGRANTS


British Border Force and Coastguards have rescued 49 suspected migrants, from the Channel between the UK and France.


A coordinated search and rescue operation took place on Boxing Day, following a number of reported incidents off the British coastline.

Norwegian woman asked to leave India for participating in protests

A Norwegian woman was asked to leave India for taking part in the protests against the new citizenship law.

Japan hangs first foreigner in a decade

Japan executed a 40-year old Chinese national on Thursday who had been convinced of killing a family of four in 2003. 

It's only the second execution of a foreign national since Japan started making public details of those they kill in 2007.

UK economic growth for 2019 forecast to be just 1%

The British economy is on track for the weakest year outside a recession since the Second World War, as political turmoil and Brexit uncertainty draggs down growth. 


Surveys of business activity suggest economic growth in the final three months of 2019 has essentially stalled.

British union demands inquiry into Thomas Cook collapse

There are growing calls for a fresh inquiry into the UK government's handling of the collapse of the travel firm Thomas Cook.

MSF STOPS EBOLA ACTIVITIES

International Medical charity, Doctors Without Borders has stopped its Ebola prevention activities in the Democratic Republic of Congo's Biakato territory due to the presence of Congolese soldiers at health facilities.

The organisation's emergency coordinator Ewenn Chenard says the presence of soldiers at health centre's goes against their principles of neutrality and impartiality. The security deployment follows an increase in attacks by militia groups in the region. Chris Ocamringa reports

China Warns EU Over Restricting Access

China's ambassador to the EU has issued a stark warning to the bloc over pursuing policies intended to curb Chinese companies' access to Europe. Zhang Ming said doing so would be "disastrous".  The warning comes as the EU mulls tougher security rules for 5G technology providers, of which China's Huawei is a global leader. DRC REBELS CALL FOR CEASEFIRE

A number of armed groups in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo have called for a ceasefire. The commanders of the rebel groups issued a statement to Congolese authorities saying they will cease hostilities on the 23rd of December. Eastern DRC has been plagued by conflict for decades. Their call comes in the wake of a military offensive by Congolese troops and UN peacekeepers.
