One million species at risk of extinction, says landmark UN report

One million animal and plant species - that's one in eight - are at risk of extinction, according to a report published on Monday by a global committee of scientists. 

The intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, the UN's leading reasrch body on nature, is meeting in Paris to compile three years's worth of research.

NORTH MACEDONIA ELECTION

North Macedonia's, Stevo Pendarovski supported by the ruling Social Democrats, has won a run-off presidential vote.


The first round of voting two weeks ago saw Mr. Pendarovski and his rival Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova finish neck and neck.


In the this latest election on Sunday, Stevo Pendarovski won around 52 percent of the vote - compared to Gordana Siljanovska Davkova's 45 percent.

China Threatens to Walk Away from Planned Trade Talks This Week

China is considering either delaying or cancelling Vice Premier Liu He's planned trip to Washington this week after Donald Trump threatened to hike tariffs on the country.

Trump threatens to increase China tariffs

US President Donald Trump says he will raise tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods to 25% on Friday - because trade talks are moving "too slowly".

Passenger plane catches fire at Moscow airport

At least 41 people were killed and a number of others injured when a plane landing at a Moscow airport caught fire on Sunday. Investigators say they are looking into several possible causes. Julia Chapman reports from Moscow.

US economy adds 263,000 jobs

The US economy added 263,000 jobs in April, beating expectations. Meanwhile the unemployment rate fell to its lowest level since 1969.

Facebook block several “dangerous individuals” from its platform
