Mnangagwa bids to attract Russian investment, as protests bite

Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa will meet Russian business leaders later as he continues to try to attract investment in mining and energy. Meanwhile at home, millions have stayed away from work, protesting a fuel price increase. Gillian Kemmerer reports.

May faces vote of no confidence



British Prime Minister Theresa May faces a vote of no confidence in her government, called by the opposition Labour party after an historic defeat of her Brexit Withdrawal Deal. 


An unprecedented number of MPs voted against the deal which has been agreed with the European Union.    Labour is pushing for a general election, however as Catherine Drew reports from London, Theresa May's government is expected to survive the vote.

Kumbh Mela pilgrimage in India attracts more than 20 million on first day

The Kumbh Mela Hindu pilgrimage in India, the world's largest gathering of people, is estimated to have attracted more than 20 million people on its first day.

Seoul's foreign minister says US, DPRK talks to resume quickly


South Korea's foreign minister says she expects talks between the U.S. and North Korea to resume quickly. Minister Kang Kyung-hwa's comments come amid reports a top North Korean official will visit Washington in the coming days.

Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-hwa told reporters the U.S. and North Korea have confirmed their strong will for a second summit.

She said if President Donald Trump and leader Kim Jong-un meet, they'll have complete talks on denuclearization.

She added the talks would be based on a strategy coordinated by Washington and Seoul.

Kang also mentioned the possibility of Kim visiting South Korea.

The minister's comments come amid U.S. and South Korean media reports that top North Korean Kim Yong-chol will visit Washington this week.

The European Union says the chances of a disorderly Brexit are greater, now that the UK House of Commons has voted down the divorce deal.

EU leaders it is now up to the UK to come up with a firm consensus on the type of Brexit it wants.

May suffers humiliating defeat for her Brexit Withdrawal Agreement


British Prime Minister Theresa May has suffered an historic defeat, after her Brexit Withdrawal Agreement was rejected by a majority of 230 MPs. 


Downing Street had been poised for a rebellion, as tens of Conservative MPs joined with other parties vehemently opposed to the so called divorce agreement Theresa May struck with the European Union.  However the scale of the defeat was worse than government officials had been expecting.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit deal has been overwhelmingly rejected by UK lawmakers.

It was defeated by a majority of 230 votes in the House of Commons.

The opposition Labour Party has now tabled a vote of no confidence in the government - which will take place on Wednesday.

Theresa May insists she'll reach out to other parties to try and build consensus on some kind of Brexit deal.

UN diplomats condemn Nairobi attack

Diplomats at the United Nations condemned Tuesday's deadly attack at a luxury hotel complex in Nairobi that reportedly killed at least three people.


During a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York to handover the chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres began his remarks by expressing solidarity with the Kenya.

Theresa May faces crushing defeat for her Brexit plan


British Prime Minister Theresa May looks set to be facing a crushing defeat as MPs get the chance to vote on her Brexit Withdrawal Agreement.

S. Korean military no longer refers to N. Korea as 'enemy'


According to a newly published defense document, South and North Korea are no longer enemies. Seoul's defense ministry has removed every mention of the word from its military white paper.

Bruce Harrison reports from Seoul.

This is the first time the enemy label hasn't appeared in the defense ministry's white paper since 2010.

That year, the North was accused of attacks that killed dozens of South Koreans, mostly navy sailors.

The change is a sign of improving relations between the two countries.

In the past, North Korea called the label a sign of South Korea's hostility.

But the defense document still says North Korea's weapons program is a threat to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

The revised white paper's publication comes amid reports of a second possible summit between the U.S. and North Korea.

World's largest religious gathering gets underway in India

The city of Prayagraj in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh is playing host to the world's largest religious gathering- called the Kumbh Mela.
