The UK's Andy Murray says he hopes to retire at this year's Wimbledon tournament, but admits he might not make it that far.

The 31 year-old is struggling to recover from a hip injury and says he might not be able to play through severe pain until July.

The former world tennis number one has won Wimbledon twice, and the US Open on one occasion.

He says he still hopes to play in the Australian Open next week and then bow out at his home grand slam.

Russian space chief blasts American sanctions

The head of Russian space agency Roscosmos has accused the U.S. of being "engulfed by its second civil war".

India's investigative agency chief fired days after being reinstated

A panel led by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fired the head of a federal investigative body, just days after he was reinstated by India's Supreme Court.

Critics have accused the government of undermining the credibility of the Central Bureau of Investigation- a body that is like the FBI in its functioning and role.

Former Trump lawyer to testify publicly before Congress

President Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen has agreed to testify publicly before Congress next month. 

Last month Mr. Cohen pleaded guilty to financial crimes and was sentenced to three years behind bars. 

The announcement of a Cohen hearing before Congress is widely seen as the first sign that the Democratic takeover of the House of Representatives could lead to much greater scrutiny of the presidency.

Trump threatens national emergency as shutdown continues

U.S President Donald Trump says he would have the absolute right to
declare a national emergency to secure funding for a border wall.

The partial government shutdown has lasted 20 days so far as Democrats
refuse to include cash for a wall in a funding bill.

President Trump visited the border with Mexico Thursday and threatened

Shinzo Abe lends Theresa May support, urges UK to avoid a no deal Brexit

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has offered his support for Theresa May's Brexit deal in a visit that comes just days ahead of a crucial parliamentary vote. 

Mr Abe said Japan wanted to add to it's already considerable investment in the UK and very much hoped the UK would not leave the European Union without a deal.    

He  also said the UK would be welcome to join the Trans Pacific Partnership, a trade agreement between 11 countries including the US, Japan, Canada and Australia. 

The visit comes as MPs continue to debate Theresa May's Brexit Withdrawal Agreement, which many believe will strongly rejected in a vote next Tuesday evening.

Moon strikes positive tone on N. Korea in New Year's address

In his first address to South Koreans this year, President Moon Jae-in focused on the economy.

Namely, how he plans to narrow the gap between the haves and have nots and stick to wage hikes to spur growth.

But his annual new year's press conference quickly drifted to North Korea.

Moon said he believes Kim Jong-un and President Trump will meet soon, seeing as Kim just visited Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Moon also said Kim and global leaders share the same understanding of 'denuclearization.'

But last month North Korea strongly suggested its vision of a nuclear free Korean Peninsula includes the removal of all U.S. military forces the region.

Moon added Pyongyang can't act alone. The U.S., he said, also needs to make concessions in negotiations.

Few Details Emerge from China-US Trade Talks

Asian markets traded mixed on Thursday following the conclusion of trade talks between China and the US the day before.

Both sides struck and upbeat tone, with Beijing saying the talks were extensive and promoted mutual understanding.

But there was no clear indication of any progress made, and there are fears some major sticking points could still prevent there being any meaningful breakthrough.

India expands its reservation policy ahead of elections
