May says general election not in the national interest, despite looming vote in her leadership

British Prime Minister Theresa May has said a general election would not be in the national interest.   Her remarks came in a rowdy session of Prime Ministers Question Time and came just hours before Conservative MPs will cast their ballots in a vote of no confidence in her leadership.

That was triggered by 48 letters from Conservative MPs, many angered by her Brexit plan and she proposes to solve the border issue between Northern Ireland and Ireland.

Theresa May needs a simple majority of the 315 Conservative MPs to vote for her to win the contest.

She responded to a question from Labour MP Kerry McCarthy that she would not seek a general election.

Over 100 Conservative MPs back Theresa May as no confidence vote looms

Over one hundred Conservative MPs say they will back Theresa May as party leader, as the British Prime Minister faces a vote of no confidence Wednesday.

Earlier the Prime Minister said she would contest the leadership challenge with everything she's got.   If she looses the vote, she will need to resign as Prime Minister.

The vote was triggered after 48 Conservative MPs submitted letters of no confidence in her leadership.   The Conservative Party remains deeply divided over Brexit with many fiercely opposed to her proposed Brexit deal which has been approved by the European Union.

The main issue of contention issue is how to solve the border issue between Northern Ireland and EU member Ireland.

Theresa May needs a simple majority of the 315 Conservative MPs to vote in favour of her to win the contest.

Olly Barratt says the party remains deeply divided.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May Will Contest Vote Of No Confidence

The British Prime Minster says she will contest a vote of no confidence in hear leadership, due to take place later today (Wednesday)

It comes after 48 letters needed to trigger the vote were received, with many in her party unhappy with her draft Brexit deal and negotiation on the terms of leaving the European Union.

Multiple rounds of talks have failed to reach a new cost-sharing agreement.

Seoul now pays about half the cost to keep U.S. troops here, roughly 830-million dollars.

The U.S. reportedly wants South Korea to pay more, which has forced negotiators into a deadlock.

According to Stars and Stripes, most of Seoul's contribution pays salaries for locals who help maintain the U.S. troop presence.

The daily also reports South Koreans working on U.S. bases will be furloughed if the two sides can't reach a deal.
