Grenfell Tower Inquiry expert: ‘stay put’ strategy failed

A fire safety expert's report to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry says advice for residents to "stay put" failed within around half an hour of the blaze starting in London last year.

The public inquiry has moved onto its second next phase - looking at the cause and the spread of the inferno on 14th June which killed 72 people.

Mediterranean deaths raise fresh concerns about Europe's migration crisis


The deaths of 48 migrants off the Tunisian coast over the weekend are raising fresh concerns about the crisis in the Mediterranean Sea.

Australia's biggest bank cops Australia's biggest penalty

Australia's largest bank, the Commonwealth Bank will pay the biggest fine in Australian corporate history after agreeing to pay $AU700 million (GBP 400 million, 456 million Euro, $US535 million) to settle the money-laundering and terrorism-funding case brought by the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC).

Indian government asks officials to 'confine' Rohingya refugees

The Indian government has asked all state governments to ensure that Rohingya refugees are confined to pre-identified locations.

The government's plan to deport 40,000 Rohingyas has been challenged in the Indian Supreme Court. It however claims that Rohingya refugees pose a 'threat to India's national security'.

GRENFELL INQUIRY MOVES TO NEXT PHASE

The Grenfell Tower inquiry is moving to its next phase - looking at the cause and the spread of the fire on 14th June last year.

Expert reports are also being published, looking at safety measures and the evacuation of the tower.

Trudeau calls US tariffs "insulting" (wrap)

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has described the implementation of US tariffs on his country as insulting and unacceptable.
The Canadian prime minister said he plans to impose reciprocal tariffs of up to 25% on about $13 billion worth of US exports from 1 July. Goods affected will include steel, as well as consumer products like yogurt, whiskey and coffee.

It comes after North Korean general Kim Yong Chol delivered a personal letter from leader Kim Jong un to President Trump at the White House on Friday.

India world's fastest growing economy ahead of China, GDP up 7.7%

LONDON BRIDGE ATTACK - ONE YEAR ON

Britain is marking a year since the London Bridge terror attack which killed 8 people.

A van was driven into pedestrians on London Bridge before three attackers got out and stabbed a number of victims in the Borough Market area.

The three assailants were then shot dead by police.

48 people were injured in the incident on 3rd June.

Lavrov invites Kim to Russia

Russia's Foreign Minister has invited the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to visit Russia.

Sergei Lavrov expressed Moscow's support in ending years of tension over North Korea's nuclear program, during meetings in Pyongyang. 

North Korean news agencies have reported a possible summit between the two countries' leaders, to mark 70 years of diplomatic ties.

Camada and Mexico threaten tit-for-tat tariffs

U.S. allies have reacted furiously to the U.S. decision to impose
tariffs on steel and aluminium.

The 25% tariff on steel and 10% duty on aluminium will come into
effect on Friday.

The U.S. made this announcement in March and have been negotiating
with the European Union, Mexico and Canada.

Some nations around the world have been made exempt from the tariffs
but U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilber Ross says U.S. allies hadn't done
enough to receive such an exemption.

The Trump Administration says a global supply glut is a threat to
their national security.
