Iran showdown looms following Pompeo Mideast tour

New American Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is wrapping up his first major international tour ahead of an expected showdown with Iran over the controversial nuclear deal.

Telegram messenger supporters rally in Moscow in support of popular app

Supporters of the popular Russian-made messaging app Telegram rallied in downtown Moscow to protest against the government's decision to block the messenger. Russia's communications watchdog has restricted access to Telegram as of April 16 for refusing to grant Russian security services access to private messages of its users. UK supermarket chains Sainsbury's & Asda to merge

Britain's second and third-largest supermarket chains have announced plans to merge.

Sainsbury's chief executive said the deal with Asda, currently owned by U.S. grocery giant Walmart, would not lead to job losses or store closures.

Indian government claims electrification of every village in the country

The Indian government says it has achieved 100% electrification of all inhabited villages in the country.

As per the government's definition, a village is said to be electrified if at least 10% of the households in it have power connections and if electricity is provided in public places such as schools, health centres and community centres.

Migrant caravan denied entry at US-Mexico border

Almost two hundred Central American migrants who have arrived at the
Mexico-US border have been told the crossing is closed to them.

US border officials say the San Diego facility has already reached
capacity and is unable to process their entry.

The so-called migrant caravan, made up of people from Guatemala,
Honduras and El Salvador, has spent several weeks traveling to the US
border.

They say they have fled violence and persecution and plan to seek asylum.

US: North Korea talks "real opportunity"

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has expressed optimism about the upcoming meeting between the leaders of America and North Korea.

Pompeo believes there is a "real opportunity" for President Donald Trump to negotiate a de-nuclearization deal with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Pompeo secretly travelled to Pyongyang earlier this month to lay the ground for the leaders' meeting.

TRUMP: Iran won't get a nuclear weapon, 'bank on it'

Iran will not get a nuclear bomb, the message from Donald Trump during his joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The President's words came during a week in which he has blasted the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement 'insane and ridiculous.' 

Trump has nosted both French and German leaders this week, the two hoping to deter the US presdient from ending the US commitment to the deal.

KOREAS AGREE DE-NUCLEARISATION PLAN

North and South Korea's leaders have agreed to work towards the complete de-nuclearisation of the Korean peninsula at a summit at the border between the two countries.

Kim Jong Un and Moon Jae-in have also pledged to try and reach a full peace treaty to replace the armistice which marked the end of the Korean War in 1953.

The two have been holding historic talks in the Demilitarised Zone between North and South Korea.

This ahead of a planned summit to involve Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trumps in the coming weeks.
