66 year old Sergei Skripal and his 33 year old daughter Yulia remain in a critical condition in hospital. A police officer who was among the first to respond when the couple were found unresponsive in the city of Salisbury is also in a serious condition in hospital.
Police say they do not believe there is any widespread risk to the public.
Head of Counter Terrorism Policing Mark Rowley said authorities had identified the nerve agent used but would not be making that information public. He said it was now being treated as a major incident involving attempted murder by the use of a nerve agent.
