16 people killed in bus crash at railway crossing in Russia

LEAD:


At least sixteen people were killed when a train hit a bus at a level crossing in the Russian region of Vladimir.  According to the emergencies ministry the crash was caused by a violation of traffic rules by the bus driver.  Julia Lyubova reports from Moscow.

US employment drops for first time since 2010

Nobel Peace Prize Awarded to Anti-Nuclear Weapons Group

In Oslo, Norway the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons—better known as I-can.

The chair of the prize committee says I-can earned the honor by doing groundbreaking work on trying to get a treaty prohibiting nuclear weapons.

After a two day chase, leopard caught inside Indian factory

For over 33 hours, a leopard kept a car factory near New Delhi on its toes.

Over 100 police officers and forest department officials were involved in the search operation that led to a temporary closure of the plant. 

The animal has since been caught and will soon be released into the wild.

Farmers deaths and illnesses caused by pesticides in Indian state

UN blacklists Saudi-led coalition in Yemen over child deaths, injuries

The United Nations has blacklisted the Saudi Arabia-led military coalition for killing and injuring hundreds of children in war-ravaged Yemen over the course of 2016.

25 species denied endangered protection by Trump administration

Bump stocks become focus of gun control debate following Las Vegas mass killing

American President Donald Trump is prepared to consider banning controversial bump stock devices that were used by the Las Vegas shooter to turn his gun into an automatic weapon.

Stephen Paddock converted his semi-automatic gun into a rapid fire weapon using what's known as a bump stock, killing 59 and wounding hundreds of others.

White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders has told reporters that President Trump was prepared to consider the bump stock issue, but said it was too early to comment on what other gun control measures the President might support.

NRA backs "additional regulations" on controversial bump stocks


The National Rifle Association in the US is backing "additional regulations" on controversial devices that allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully automatic weapons.

Several rifles fitted with so-called "bump stocks" were found in Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock's possession after the mass shooting that killed 58.

The US State Department is denying that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson ever called President Trump a moron.

There's been much speculation in Washington over the issue after Mr Tillerson did not categorically deny using the word when he held a news conference on the issue earlier this week.

President Trump tweeted on Thursday that Mr Tillerson never threatened to resign as some media had reported, and State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert has told reporters she believes he never denigrated the President in such a way.
