EU's Brexit chief Barnier says UK must provide solutions to Ireland border concerns

The European Union's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier says  the UK must provide solutions to the challenges on the island of Ireland after Brexit because it was Britian that voted to leave the EU.

The comments came as the EU released another set of position papers outlining its point of view on the main issues in the Brexit negations.

Britain and the UK remain at loggerheads on many of the key issues after three rounds of negations in Brussels.

Michel Barnier says Britain's position on Ireland is worrying and says the UK must not use Ireland as a test case of border arrangements post-Brexit.

UK GOVT MAKES CASE FOR EU 'REPEAL BILL'

The UK government insists historic legislation being proposed is to ensure stability past Brexit, and not to secure more power for ministers.

The so-called 'Repeal Bill' is being debated in the House of Commons ahead of key votes on Monday.

It will convert existing EU laws into domestic legislation so they can then be kept, or replaced at a later date.

The opposition Labour Party says it amounts to a 'power-grab' by the government.

But Brexit Secretary David Davis says it's necessary to provide certainty.
