US Defense Secretary puts temporary hold on Trump transgender ban in military


US President Donald Trump's Defense Secretary James Mattis has frozen a planned halt on transgender people in the military.

President Trump signed a memorandum on Friday directing US forces not to accept transgender people as recruits...but Secretary Mattis says current policy will remain in place until a review requested by the White House has been completed.

UN condemns escalating violence against Rohingya in Myanmar

The United Nations has denounced escalating violence between Myanmar's security forces and Rohingya Muslims in the country.

This comes after militants attacked security forces over the weekend, in response to ongoing discrimination against the Rohingya people. 

The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Thursday to address the situation in Myanmar.

Houston continues to battle rising floods as Trump visits Texas

The flood-stricken city of Houston has been battling rising floods in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. 

U.S. President Trump has been visiting Texas in a show of support for the embattled state.

Iran reject U.S. calls for UN inspectors to visit military sites

Trump pledges federal support to hurricane-devastated areas

American President Donald Trump has pledged billions of dollars of Federal Government money to help the rebuilding of areas devastated by Hurricane Harvey in Texas and Louisiana.

Floodwaters continue to rise in Houston and other areas along the Gulf Coast as the remnants of the hurricane dumps more than 20 inches of rain on the region.

Mr Trump told reporters that thousands of federal workers were involved in helping state authorities, but the over-riding priority at the moment was saving lives.
