13 dead in Barcelona attack

At least 13 are reported dead after a van ploughed into a crowd of tourists in the Ramplas neighborhood in Barcelona.

The Spanish police are treating this as a terror attack, with reports armed two men are hiding in a bar.

Reporter Tim John says Ramblas was just about the most popular neighborhood in Barcelona.

At least 2 dead in Barcelona attack

Spanish police are confirming at least two, and as many as four are dead after a van crashed through a crowd of tourists in the popular Ramblas area of Barcelona.

Local authorities are treating the incident as intentional, a possible terror attack.

With reports of gunmen possibly hiding in a bar, reporter Tim John and others have been moved to outside a police cordon for safety.

Barcelona Suspected Terrorist Attack: Eyewitnesses

A truck has ploughed into crowds in a busy tourist area of Barcelona, with reports that two people have died.

Several people have been injured and emergency services are at the scene.

Police have locked down the area and are treating it as a terrorist attack.

Meanwhile it's understood armed men have entered a restaurant in the city. Police are advising the public to stay away.




Eyewitness Angela has been seeking refuge in a nearby shop and described what she heard.

US military official says joint military drills with South Korea to continue

The United States and South Korea will not cancel plans to conduct annual joint-military drills next week, despite pressure from North Korea and Beijing to suspend the annual exercises. 


A top US military official said the exercises are not part of any negotiation.

Spanish police are treating the crash of a van into a crowd of tourists in Barcelona as a terror attack.

Two people are reported dead and multiple injuries.

There are also reports that two men have opened fire in a cafe.

It comes after Spanish police are reporting dozens of people have been hit by a van on Barcelona's most famous street.

"So foolish" to remove statues - Pres. Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump is saying via social media that it is foolish to remove the statues commemorating generals and others from the Confederate Army.

It was the planned removal of a statue of General Robert E. Lee that started the weekend protests and counter protests that left 1 dead, another man with a stroke and more than 20 injured.

International impact of Charlottesville violence grows

Two Canadians have been identified as participants with the KKK, neo-nazi and white supremacist protestors in last weekend's march on Charlottesville, Virginia which ended up in violent clashes.

The two men were identified from still frames from the increasingly popular Vice News (American cable & streaming video channel) documentary.

People on social media have been trying to identify the participants, such as those opposed to PEGIDA movements, PEGIDA originating in Germany as Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West.

According to the documentary, one man claimed to drive 12 hours from Canada to participate, and our correspondent Ross Ingram reports:

U.S. President Donald Trump has posted on social media in a tweet storm that it's "So foolish" that communities want to remove statues from the Confederate Era of Generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson, that American culture and history is being ripped apart.

Belfast High Court Dismisses Same Sex Marriage Cases

A UK high court judge has thrown out two challenges to Northern Ireland's ban on same-sex marriage.


A joint case was brought by couples who were the first to enter civil partnerships in the UK, while the second was brought by a couple who want heir marriage legally recognised in Northern Ireland

In staff email, Apple CEO Tim Cook criticises US President Donald Trump over Charlottesville remarks


Apple CEO Tim Cook has become the latest business leader to criticise US President Donald Trump for his comments on white supremacists.

On Tuesday President Trump blamed anti-racist protestors as well as white supremacist groups for violence that broke out in Charlottesville, Virginia...but Apple's CEO says the president is wrong.

The White House chief strategist Steve Bannon has attacked white supremacists as "clowns" as pressure mounts on President Donald Trump over his response to the Charlottesville violence.

UN hopes for Syria peace talks in months

The United Nations says it is hopefully "serious negotiations" could
be possible between the Syrian government and opposition in the coming
months.

10-year-old rape survivor, denied abortion, gives birth

A minor girl whose plea for abortion was turned down by the Indian Supreme Court has become a mother.

The child was born through a Caesarean section.

Earlier, doctors had expressed concerns that her body was not developed enough to birth a child.

Plans to silence Big Ben under review

With just a few days to go before restoration work on Big Ben in London is due to begin, the British parliament is reviewing the decision to silence the bell.

The repairs are set to take four years and the plan is to silence the chimes of the famous clock for the duration of the work.

UK's anti-terror hotline reports big increase in calls from public

There's been a big increase in the number of phone calls received by the UK's anti-terror hotline in the wake of a series of terror attacks in London and Manchester. 

The hotline received more than 5,700 calls in June, compared to 750 in January.  

Policing analyst and former detective Graham Wettone says information supplied from the public can often be crucial.

UK government reportedly preparing for visa free travel for EU citizens post Brexit

The British government is reportedly preparing for a system of visa-free travel for visitors from European Union countries after Brexit. 

However it's understood EU citizens planning to settling in the UK would have to apply for permission.   It comes as the UK is preparing to unveil it's immigration system in the next few months.

Spanish coastguard rescues 600 migrants in 24 hour period

600 migrants have been rescued in a 24 hour period by the Spanish coastguard as they attempted to make their way to Europe from Morocco.

Spain is seeing a large increase in arrivals after the route between Turkey and Greece was blocked by a deal struck with Ankara by the EU.

Five Russian athletes suspended for doping
