Trump Tells Republicans They Must Pass Healthcare Bill

US President Donald Trump's trying to persuade Republican lawmakers to support his sweeping bill to overhaul the country's healthcare system.

In a series of meetings and phone calls at the White House and on Capitol Hill, Mr Trump's been warning his party that failure to pass the American Healthcare Act would endanger their political careers.

But around two dozen Republican lawmakers are still against the bill ahead of a vote this Thursday - conservatives believe it doesn't do enough to undo President Obama's Affordable Care Act, while moderates think it might go too far.

Speaking at a dinner for the National Republican Congressional Committee on Thursday night, Mr. Trump said voters sent his party to Washington to make changes:

New Allegations That Manafort 'Hid' $750,000 Payment

Donald Trump's former campaign manager tried to hide a payment of $750,000 by a pro-Russian party in 2009 - that's according to a Ukrainian lawmaker, Serhiy Leshchenko.

He alleges that he has evidence about the secret funds, but Mr. Manafort's spokesman has called the claim 'baseless'.

'Grey cloud' lingers over Trump 'wiretap' tweet

President Trump's defenders feel there is a grey cloud hanging over the White House and his administration for his failure to apologize for the tweet claiming the Trump organization phones were tapped.

Others tell the New York Times, they feel the President is dealing in pure faith that someone will eventually come out of the woodwork to back up his claim, even as the questions about his social media posts undermine his credibility.

During a Congressional hearing Monday, FBI director James Comey directly rebutted the wiretap claims.

Asked point blank by a reporter during the White House briefing, Sean Spicer demurred again.

Intelligence reason for US electronics ban

The White House will only say that intelligence is the reason why certain electronics have been relegated to the hold or banned for direct flights from some airports.

The Transportation Safety Administration gave 13 countries 96 hours to implement a plan to prohibit most electronics larger than a cell phone from the passenger seating - although the other limitations on lithium ion batteries in the luggage areas will complicate matters.

White House Spokesman Sean Spicer would only confirm the TSA announcement.
