Senior Republicans, as well as Democrats, say they've seen no evidence to support President Donald Trump's assertion that his predecessor, Barack Obama, had wiretapped his phones during the 2016 election campaign.
The explosive allegation came in a series of early morning tweets by Mr Trump on Saturday.
White House deputy spokesperson Sarah Huckabee told ABC News, that if true, the tapping of Mr Trump's phones would constitute " the greatest abuse of power, the country had ever seen ". The White House said it would not comment further until Congress had investigated.
Republican senator and former presidential hopeful, Marco Rubio told NBC he had no knowledge of any wiretapping of President Trump's phones.

Former National Intelligence Director James Clapper has denied there is any evidence that President Donald Trump's phones were tapped before the election.
Speaking on NBC's Meet the Press, said he also denied any kind of court order that would have allowed the FBI to tap Trump Tower.

Democratic Senator Al Franken is calling for US Justice Chief Jeff Sessions, to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committe once again, to explain his meetings with the Russian ambassador last year.
Al Franken had questioned Jeff Sessions during his confirmation hearing about contacts between the Trump campaign and Russia.
The US Justice chief said at the time, he had not had any contact with Russian officals, but was then forced to recuse himself from an FBI investigation, when the Washington Post found that he had.
