Man detained in Berlin over Christmas market attack

A suspect has been detained in the German city of Berlin over a possible connection to last week's Christmas market attack that left twelve people dead.
The man's number was found in the phone of the attacker Anis Amir, who was shot dead in Italy a few days after the attack.

DOZENS ARRESTED AT UK NAIL BARS OVER 'MODERN SLAVERY'

97 people working in nail bars in the UK have been arrested on suspicion of immigration offences as the government cracks down on the issue of modern slavery.

Most of those arrested were Vietnamese nationals.

Hard Brexit campaigners want free trade agreement

Chambers of Commerce across Europe have been urged by the UK's 'hard' Brexit campaigners to ask their governments for a free trade agreement with Britain, following the country's departure from the European Union.


The Leave Means Leave campaign believes trade barriers would not only be damaging to the UK, but also other EU nations.

Six Terror Attacks Thwarted in Belgium, But Threat Remains

The leader of the federal police unit in Brussels says his team has helped thwart at least six terror attacks in the past two years.

But despite the successes in gathering intelligence and tracking potential terrorists, Belgium will enter 2017 still on high alert.

Shinzo Abe pays respects at Pearl Harbor

Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, has paid his respects to those
who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor, becoming the first sitting
leader from Japan to do so.

Thousands were killed when Japan attacked the US naval fleet in World War Two.

researchers indicate holiday spending in the US surpassed 2015 levels

Researchers estimate that shoppers in the United States spent $637
billion over the holiday season.

That would mean a near 5% bump from last year and is thanks largely to
a significant spike in online sales.

Reconciliation is theme of Obama at Pearl Harbor

U.S. President Barack Obama emphasized how reconciliation can help nations come together and do great things as friends during remarks at Pearl Harbor.

He hosted Japanese Prime Minster for what is expected to be a final bilateral with a world leader, and an historic visit to the place where the Japanese military attacked the U.S. Navy 75 years ago.

President Obama spoke of how the two former enemies chose peace.

PM Abe offers condolences at Pearl Harbor

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has offered condolences at Pearl Harbor for the actions by Japan 75 years ago.

He is making an historic visit to Hawaii, to visit the place where the Japanese military nearly destroyed the American fleet, bringing the United States into World War II.

After laying wreathes at the USS Arizona memorial, Prime Minister Abe offered condolences.

US crititicises Israel for expanded settlement plans

The United States is criticising Israel's plans to increase the construction of settlements in disputed territory.

Israel intends to build 600 more homes in East Jerusalem, in defiance of a UN resolution which condemned such construction in East Jeruslam and the West Bank.

Israel is furious at the United States for not vetoing the resolution. 

US State Department spokesman Mark Toner has defended Washington's decision, and said Israel was harming longterm prospects for peace.

Polish passenger reportedly shot hours before Berlin attack

According to media reports, the dead passenger found in the truck used in last week's terror attack in Berlin was likely shot several hours before before the attack.

Police in Turkey stand trial over coup plot

Twenty nine police officers have gone on trial on Turkey over their alleged role in the failed military coup attempt earlier this year.

Trump criticizes United Nations days after Israel vote

US President-elect Donald Trump has criticized the United Nations
describing it as a club for people to get together, talk and have a

Chapecoense crash in Colombia was human error


Colombian aviation authorities have concluded that the plane crash that killed 71 passengers, including most of the Chapecoense Brazilian football team was caused by a series of human errors. 

Investigators did not find any technical failures, but rather a series of missteps by the pilot, as well as Bolivian regulators which resulted in the cash.
