Impeachment vote set for South Korea

The Obama administration is not worried about the looming impeachment vote in South Korea.

The parliament is set to vote on whether to impeach President Park Gyun-Hye following allegations of corruption.

The director of press operations for the U.S. State Department Elizabeth Trudeau says the relationship between Washington and Seoul go far past individuals.

US confirms progress toward Aleppo ceasefire

The U.S. is confirming that talks are continuing into how best to implement a ceasefire for Aleppo.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that the Syrian military has ceased operations in the eastern part of the city, but the White House says they are  listening carefully to what the Russians say, but will also scrutinise their actions." 

The director of press operations for the U.S. State Department Elizabeth Trudeau also confirmed that talks in Geneva are in the works.

US Congress cracks down on ticket-grabbing bots

The US Congress has passed a bill that plans to crack down on bots that buy batches of online tickets to shows and sports events before humans.

The bots mean that tickets to popular events often sell out in minutes, before appearing later on re-sale sites at inflated prices.

US Surgeon General Says E-Cigarettes ‘Major Concern’

The US Surgeon General has called for action to reduce the use of e-cigarettes among young people, as part of a new report published on Thursday.

Vivek Murthy said children are more vulnerable to potential problems caused by exposure to nicotine, and should be protected.

150 civilians evacuated from Aleppo frontline as UN press for humanitarian ceasefire

The Red Cross and Syrian Arab Red Crescent on Wednesday successfully evacuated nearly 150 civilians trapped in an Aleppo hospital. 


Most of them were disabled, or injured by heavy fighting. 


The evacuation came amid renewed calls from the UN for a humanitarian ceasefire in the war-ravaged city.

SUPREME COURT TO CONCLUDE BREXIT HEARINGS

Four days of hearings at the UK's Supreme Court on Brexit are due to conclude later (Thursday).

The Court is deciding whether the government needs parliamentary consent to trigger Article 50 which starts formal negotiations on Britain's exit from the EU.

The Supreme Court's ruling will come in January.

It comes after UK MPs backed Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit timetable - she wants hit Article 50 by the end of March - while she conceded she'll publish some detail about her negotiating strategy.

Shell signs with Iran to explore oil projects despite Trump's threat to undo nuke deal

Oil giant Royal Dutch Shell on Wednesday signed an agreement to explore oil projects in Iran, despite threats by US President-elect Donald Trump to nix the Iran nuclear deal.
