UK COURT: PARLIAMENT MUST VOTE ON BREXIT ARTICLE 50

The UK's Parliament must vote on whether the UK can trigger Article 50 which begins the process of leaving the European Union.

That's according to a ruling handed down by the High Court in London.

However, the government will appeal.

Prime Minister Theresa May says she will activate Article 50 by the end of March 2017, at which point formal negotiations on Brexit can begin.

UK correspondent Olly Barratt says this ruling has provided her with an unwanted obstacle.

Belgian immigration minister fined by court for refusing asylum request

Belgium's immigration minister has been threatened with a visit from the bailiffs - for non payment of a fine for refusing to grant asylum to a Syrian family.

Amnesty International says asylum seekers have been tortured in Italian reception centres

A number of asylum seekers who refused to be fingerprinted by Italian authorities have been tortured by police according to a new report by Amnesty International.

Italy is on the frontline of Europe's migration crisis and has been under EU pressure to ensure each new arrival is fingerprinted.
