Voting closes in Labour leadership ballot

Protesters clash with police in Charlotte after shooting of black man

The US city of Charlotte, North Carolina has returned to calm today after twelve police officers were injured during protests over the police shooting of a black man.

Police cars were destroyed and one officer was hit in the face with a rock, according to officials.

Elsewhere, police in the city of Tulsa, in Oklahoma, said a black man they'd killed on Friday was unarmed.

UN General Assembly focuses on Syria

The United Nations Security Council is meeting to discuss the
situation in Syria as the US and Russia continue to blame one another
for the attack on a UN aid convoy.

Meanwhile, also at the UN General Assembly the Secretary-General will
push for faster action on climate change.

UN hold special Syria meeting

The United Nations is holding a special meeting on Syria, attended by
the Security Council's foreign ministers.

It's an attempt to find a path forward, just days after the most
recent ceasefire collapsed.

The meeting is being held during the UN General Assembly to draw
attention to the situation in the country that has faced more than
five years of civil war.

But Richard Gowan, Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations
says the meeting on Syria is unlikely to help stop the fighting.

Ship Sent to House Refugees Forced Out by Fire

The Greek government is sending a ship to the island of Lesbos to house refugees and migrants after a fire swept through their camp.

The cause of the Monday night blaze that destroyed tents and temporary houses still remains unknown.

Kalashnikov set to expand its diversification

One US Pilot Dies, Another Injured in U-2 Spy Plane Crash

One American pilot was killed and another injured when they ejected
from a U-2 spy plane shortly before it crashed in Northern California
on Tuesday morning. A seasoned instructor and another pilot from from
Beale Air Force Base were participating in a training mission when the
incident occurred. A commander at Beale said he would match the safety
record of a U-2 with any other aircraft the Air Force flies and this
won't deter future missions.

Microsoft to Buyback $40 Billion in Stock

US officials accuse Russia of bombing aid convoy

U.S. officials are accusing Russia of bombing the aid convoy which was en route to Aleppo.

The accusations come as U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry tries to hold the ceasefire together for Syria during talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

Rahami Charged with NY and NJ Bombings

The man whom US authorities believe planted bombs in New York and New Jersey over the weekend has been charged with the use of weapons of mass destruction, and bombing a place of public use.

Ahmad Rahami has already been charged with the attempted murder of a police officer, after a gun battle on Monday during which he was taken into custody.

UN Ban Ki Moon Condemns Attack on Aid Truck in Syria at General Assembly Speech

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon called the attack on a UN
aid convoy in Syria, "savage". He gave these remarks during his final
address to world leaders at the UN General Assembly.

The UN has confirmed that 20 people were killed in the attack.

Secretary General Ban Ki Moon said the UN would halt humanitarian
deliveries to Syria.

Obama urges global help for refugees

In his final address to the United Nations General Assembly US President Barack Obama has urged countries to open their "hearts" to refugees.

Obama said the world would be a safer place if leaders did more to accept people fleeing their homelands.

The global refugee crisis is a key issue at this year's annual UN meeting, with an estimated 21 million refugees worldwide needing assistance.

Bombing suspect's father says he called FBI two years ago

The father of New York bombing suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami says he called the FBI about his son as far back as 2014.

US media reports Mohammad Rahami also told police two years ago that his son was a terrorist, but that he later recanted his story.

Ahmad Khan Rahami is accused of planting a bomb that injured 29 people, plus two other devices over the weekend.

Another police killing of unarmed black man sparks US federal investigation

American Federal authorities have stepped in to investigate another police killing of an unarmed black man.
