Roadside Bomb Kills Soldier in Afghanistan

A  roadside bomb has killed a U. S. service member in Afghanistan’s Helmand province.
The blast also wounded another American and six Afghan soldiers.

President Obama visits flood-ravaged neighborhoods in Louisiana

President Obama traveled Tuesday to Louisiana, where severe rains have flooded some 20 parishes in what is being described as the worst natural disaster in the country since Hurricane Sandy hit in 2012. 

President Obama has been criticized for not visiting the area sooner. 

President Obama said that a week ago he requested a contingent of federal officials led by Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson help with the scale of the devastation.

UNICEF sees rise in child refugees fleeing Central America to US

Thousands of children from Central America continue to make their way to the United States to escape gang violence and deep poverty, at the risk of being kidnapped, trafficked, raped or killed along the way. 

In the first half of the year, 26 thousand unaccompanied children were apprehended at the US border, according to the UN's children agency.

Kerry Threatens S. Sudan Leaders with Sanctions

UN pushes for ceasefire in Syria to allow humanitarian access in Aleppo

Russia loses Paralympics ban appeal

Moscow says future use of Iranian air base depends on circumstances in Syria
