AP: Restrictions on Iran Nuclear Programme Halve Time Needed For a Bomb

The Associated Press says it's obtained secret documents showing that key restrictions on Iran's nuclear programme will ease in just over ten years, halving the time needed to build a bomb.

It comes as the UN Security Council was being briefed on the implementation of a landmark nuclear deal with Iran, agreed almost exactly a year ago.

WH: Urges Turkey Pres. to show restraint follwing failed coup

The United States is urging Turkey's leader to show restraint and respect the rule of law following failed coup attempt over the weekend.  

President Recep Erdogan has rounded up some six-thousand members of the military after they unsuccessfully tried to overthrow his government.  

Close to 300 people were killed and more than 14-hundred injured during the unrest.

Speaking at the White House today, spokesman Josh Earnest repeated that call for restraint...

Kremlin suspends sports officials implicated in WADA report, questions findings

Following the publication of the World Anti-Doping Agency's independent commission report, which proved state-sponsored doping among Russian athletes, the Russian President ordered to suspend officials implicated in it.

At the same time,  the Kremlin questioned the investigation's findings as based on the testimony of a man of "scandalous reputation".

Republican convention opens amid signs of GOP disarray

The Repblican Convention has begun in Cleveland, with prominent supporters of Donald Trump accusing the Bush family of being "childish" for boycotting the event.


Mr. Trump says he wants to unify the party around his Presidential candidacy.

Corbyn criticises Trident cost

UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has criticised both the cost and moral issues of renewing the country's nuclear weapons.

The Shadow Prime Minister's comments on Trident come as Members of Parliament vote whether or not to renew the nuclear deterrent.

Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr Corbyn said possessing weapons of mass destruction was expensive and detrimental to the United Kingdom.

More Than 100 Thousand People Walk Across Venezuela-Colombia Border

Kevin Rudd officially seeks Canberra's backing for UNSG bid

Officer acquitted in Freddie Gray death

The highest-ranking of six officers charged in the high-profile death of Freddie Gray in a Baltimore police van has been acquitted.

A total of six officers were involved in Gray's arrest - two others had previously been cleared of charges, and two more are still awaiting trial.

UN name Iraqi marshes World Heritage Site

The United Nations cultural wing Unesco has added the marshes of
southern Iraq to the list of World Heritage sites.

This comes after Iraq's former ruler Saddam Hussein ordered to have

Russian government 'oversaw' athlete doping

The Russian government has systematically covered up doping across a range of sports since 2011, according to a report by the World Anti Doping Agency.

The report describes how the country's Ministry of Sport 'directed, controlled and oversaw' the scandal which involved athlete's clean urine samples being frozen and switched for doped urine.

The investigation was commissioned following claims made by the former director of the Moscow anti-doping laboratory, Dr Grigory Rodchenkov.

Canadian lawyer Richard McLaren who led the commission described how the samples of Russian athletes competing in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics had been tampered with.

FBI join investigation into shooting deaths of Baton Rouge Police

FBI agents have joined the investigation into the shooting that left three law enforcement officers dead in Baton Rouge, Louisiana over the weekend.

Second lady of the US is in Africa


The United States is extending a project for training girls in Information technology to cities outside the Ethiopian capital. The project that begun in 2015 has so far graduated 40 young experts in ICT.

UK FM Boris Johnson says UK will work closely with EU despite exit

The UK's new foreign minister Boris Johnson has insisted his country will continue to work with the European Union despite its vote to leave the bloc.

Mr Johnson is attending his first meeting with his EU counterparts in Brussels after his appointment to his new job.

He lead the campaign for the UK to exit the European Union and has likened the EU project to Adolf Hitler's ambition to create a European superstate in the past.

Boris Johnson's welcome was expected to be frosty but he insists he intends to be constructive during the talks in Brussels.
