Final two Tory Leadership candidates to be decided

The final two politicians to compete for the role of UK Prime Minister and Conservative leader is being decided.

Tory Members of Parliament will take part in a second ballot, which will result in two candidates being left for Conservative grass roots members to choose from.

The leadership race began after Prime Minister David Cameron announced he would be stepping down from his role following the EU Referendum Brexit result.

Germany expected to pass tougher rape law

Germany's parliament is expected to approve a new law broadening the definition of sex crimes and making it easier to deport foreign nationals who commit them.

Portugal advance to Euro 2016 final

French Court Sentences Rwandan Mayors to Life in Prison

A court in Paris has sentenced two former Rwandan mayors to life behind bars for committing crimes against humanity.
They're accused of playing lead roles in the 1994 genocide that led to the death of thousands of ethnic Tutsis.

Obama and Putin discuss Syria, Ukraine ahead of NATO Summit

CALLS FOR BLAIR LEGAL ACTION OVER IRAQ

There are new calls for former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to face legal action over the Iraq war.

It follows the publication of Britain's Iraq Inquiry which contained damning criticism of Mr Blair over the build-up to, prosecution of and aftermath of the 2003 invasion.

The Chilcot Report suggests the legal basis presented in the UK for military intervention was 'far from satisfactory.'

Tony Blair insists he takes responsibility for mistakes that were made but says he still believes it was right to remove Saddam Hussein.

Venezuelan Women Rush Columbia Border to Buy Groceries

Hundreds of  women have defied border guards, breaking through a barricade  separating the countries of Venezuela and Columbia.

FBI Director to testify to Congressional panel


FBI Director James Comey is set to testify to a key Congressional panel on his findings on Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server.

While Director Comey said Clinton's staff was extremely careless in their sharing of information via her private email account, there was not enough evidence to file criminal charges.

Civil rights investigation following Baton Rouge shooting

The U.S. Justice Department is launching an investigation into whether the civil rights of Alton Sterling were violated, when he was shot to death by the Baton Rouge police.

The shooting in Louisiana's state capital is the latest in a series of what is seen to be an excess use of force by law enforcement especially against African-American men.

One central finding of the report was that the U.S. ignored much of the advice from the United Kingdom on forward planning for rebuilding Iraq after the military campaign was over.

Lionel Messi to appeal his tax fraud conviction

Football star Lionel Messi has said he will appeal a Barcelona court's decision to sentence him and his father to a 21 month prison sentences for tax fraud.

His appeal comes despite the fact that, under Spanish law, sentences of less than two years for first offences are suspended, meaning neither man would actually serve time behind bars.

US Dept of Justice investigates Alton Sterling shooting

The US Department of Justice is launching an investigation into the death of Alton Sterling, a black man fatally shot by cops in the state of Louisiana.

This is just the latest in a series of similar incidents across the US. 

Video of the altercation seems to show two white police officers firing at 37 year old Alton Sterling, who was selling CDs outside a convenience store.

The shooting has prompted protests in the city of Baton Rogue.

Louisiana state Governor John Bel Edwards said the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division will be taking the lead on the case.

He's calling for calm while the investigation takes place.

Obama Abandons Troop Drawdown Plan in Afghanistan

US President Barack Obama has announced that he is halting plans to reduce the number of forces in Afghanistan.

He's ordering that troop numbers be kept at 8,400 until he leaves office early next year instead  of reducing to 5,500 by the end of this year.

His  announcement comes just ahead of a NATO summit in Warsaw in which members commitments to Afghanistan will be discussed.

IRAQ INQUIRY CRITICISES UK INVOLVEMEMENT IN 2003 INVASION

Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has expressed his 'sorrow' and 'regret' after being strongly criticised over his role in the Iraq war of 2003.

Mr Blair is accused of over-stating the case for military action against Saddam Hussein in the UK's long-delayed Iraq Inquiry.

Sir John Chilcot who chaired the inquiry has also questioned the legal justification used as Britain prepared for war.
