Learn from the Chilcot report - White House

Important things can be learned from the Chilcot report, the White House says.

One central finding of the report was that the U.S. ignored much of the advice from the United Kingdom on forward planning for rebuilding Iraq after the military campaign was over.

Lionel Messi to appeal his tax fraud conviction

Football star Lionel Messi has said he will appeal a Barcelona court's decision to sentence him and his father to a 21 month prison sentences for tax fraud.

His appeal comes despite the fact that, under Spanish law, sentences of less than two years for first offences are suspended, meaning neither man would actually serve time behind bars.

US Dept of Justice investigates Alton Sterling shooting

The US Department of Justice is launching an investigation into the death of Alton Sterling, a black man fatally shot by cops in the state of Louisiana.

This is just the latest in a series of similar incidents across the US. 

Video of the altercation seems to show two white police officers firing at 37 year old Alton Sterling, who was selling CDs outside a convenience store.

The shooting has prompted protests in the city of Baton Rogue.

Louisiana state Governor John Bel Edwards said the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division will be taking the lead on the case.

He's calling for calm while the investigation takes place.

China Slams UN Group Over ‘Arbitrary Detention’ Criticism

Obama Abandons Troop Drawdown Plan in Afghanistan

US President Barack Obama has announced that he is halting plans to reduce the number of forces in Afghanistan.

He's ordering that troop numbers be kept at 8,400 until he leaves office early next year instead  of reducing to 5,500 by the end of this year.

His  announcement comes just ahead of a NATO summit in Warsaw in which members commitments to Afghanistan will be discussed.

President Obama says Afghan forces need continued assistance to improve their capabilities.

Unjust killing of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge - family

Family and friends of Alton Sterling are calling for justice after the 37-year-old was shot to death by police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

According to some reports, the man had a gun and was resisting arrest, but so far, the investigation is focusing on gathering all footage of the event.

Having watched her son break down in tears in front of gathered TV cameras, Quinyetta McMillon, the mother of one of Alton Sterling's children said his death was unjust.

Calls for Justice Dept. investigation after police shoot black man

Local officials in Baton Rouge, Louisiana are calling for a federal investigation by the U.S. Justice Department into the police shooting of a black man who was selling music CDs.

CORBYN criticises time it took to produce Chilcot

The Shadow Prime Minister Jeremy Corbyn has criticised the length of time it took to produce the Chilcot Report. 

The inquiry which took 7 years to produce, concluded Britain's role in the 2003 Iraq War was based on 'flawed intelligence and assessments' that went unchallenged.
