Hungary and Austria in spat over returning migrants

Hungary says it will not receive returned migrants from Austria which argues they're obliged to under European Union rules.

Current EU agreements mean that asylum seekers can be sent back to the first country they enter in the bloc.

Savchenko Calls For Talks With Separatist Rebels in Ukraine

The Ukrainian helicopter pilot who spent over a year in a Russian prison has called for direct dialogue between the Ukrainian government and pro-Russia rebels in the country's east.

Nadiya Savchenko, now also a Ukrainian MP, was sentenced to 22 years in jail in March, then released by Russia in May as part of a prisoner swap.

EURO 2016 TO BEGIN AMID TIGHT SECURITY

French President Francois Hollande is warning unions not to disrupt euro 2016 as it kicks off in Paris.

In the run-up to the European Championships, there's been widespread industrial action in France over proposed labour reforms.

The tournament starts with France vs Romania at the Stade de France in Paris.

There is a huge security operation in place across the country with France on high alert for terrorism.

On Thursday there were brawls between supporters and police in Marseille after England fans were reportedly targeted by locals.

Muhammad Ali to be laid to rest on Friday

On Friday legendary boxer Muhammad Ali will be laid to rest in his
hometown of Louisville Kentucky.

The three-time heavyweight boxing champion died on June 3rd and
several world leaders are set to come and pay their respects.

Venezuelan Opposiiton Lawmakers Attacked


Violence broke out in Caracas (on Thursday) as 60 opposition deputies marched through the Venezuelan capital.

The opposition lawmakers say they were attacked by government supporters with pipes, stones buckshot, and fists.

UN panel says Irish woman's rights were violated after late-term abortion overseas

Qatar summons U.S. Ambassador to explain video of soldiers laughing near flag

U.S.-backed Forces Advance On IS Militants At Syrian Turkish Border

U.S.-backed forces fighting Islamic State near the Syrian-Turkish
border said on Thursday they had reached the militants' last main
route in and out of the city of Manbij, their stronghold in the area.
The report was confirmed by monitors who say the Kurdish militia and
Arab allies were in firing distance of the road where they hope to cut
off the militants link to the outside world.

Obama endorses Hillary Clinton for President

President Obama has endorsed Hillary Clinton for the US Presidency.


He says "there's never been" anyone so qualified to hold America's top office.


The move came after an apparently fruitless Oval Office meeting with Senator Bernie Sanders, who has failed to concede in the race for the Democratic Party's nomination.

AL Shabaab attack on AMISOM

The African Union has condemned what it calls a failed attack by Al Shabaab militants in Halgan in the Hiiran region of Somalia. 

There is no official confirmation on the number of fallen soldiers.

Coletta Wanjohi reports from Addis Ababa:  


Al-Shabab militants claimed Thursday that its fighters killed 60 soldiers during an attack on a military base of Ethiopian soldiers serving with an African Union force in Somalia.
 
However, the Ethiopian government has not confirmed that any soldiers were killed.

Lt. Col. Joe Kibet, spokesman for the African Union's AMISOM force, dismissed al-Shabab's numbers as a "falsehood." 

He says AMISOM forces killed 110 Al-Shabab militants and captured their weapons during the attempted attack.

Brussels and Paris attacks suspect can be extradited from Belgium to France

A Belgian court has ruled that suspected terrorist Mohamed Abrini, who is linked to Paris attacks last November, can be extradited to France.

He is unlikely to be transferred soon however as he is also believed to have been present at Brussels airport when it was bombed in March.

There will be no charges in the UK over the claimed rendition of two families to Libya because of a lack of evidence, according to prosecutors.
