Donald Trump Backs Brexit

Donald Trump has signalled his support for Britain leaving the European Union.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee told Fox News that migration had been what he called "a horrible thing for Europe".

Turkish President signals he will not comply with EU visa free travel requirements

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says Turkey won't change its anti-terror laws to meet the EU's requirements for visa free travel.
It's the latest sign the deal struck to reduce the number of refugees and migrants reaching Turkey from Europe may collapse.

Sexual assault charges dropped in Cologne trial

Prosecutors dropped sexual assault charges against an Algerian man in the first trial of its kind after a series of attacks in the German city of Cologne on New Year's Eve.

The man and his brother were however convicted of separate charges stemming from the incident.

US announces fewer-than-expected job growth

The US economy added 160,000 jobs in April, the fewest amount in seven months.

The new figures cast doubts on whether the federal reserve will raise interest rates before the end of the year.

UK-WIDE ELECTIONS LATEST

As votes continue to be counted in the UK-wide elections, the Scottish National party claim victory in Scotland and Labour maintain a comfortable lead in Wales.

It was a good night for the Conservative party in Scotland and UKIP in Wales, both making significant progress in gaining support.

Meanwhile pressure is mounting on Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn after his party hung on in council elections across England, but produced poor results in Scotland.

LABOUR LOSES GROUND IN KEY ELECTIONS

In the UK, the opposition Labour Party has performed badly in key elections, although avoiding the meltdown some had predicted.

Labour appears to have been pushed into third place in elections for the Scottish Parliament.

And it has lost councillors on a series of local authorities, although it has held onto control of several key councils in England.

Results in London's Mayoral election won't be confirmed until later.

Labour's results are likely to heap pressure on leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Suspected Smugglers Lead Police on High Speed Chase

Four suspected migrant traffickers are in serious condition after they led police on a high speed chase that crossed from Belgium into France.

The chaotic chase ended in a crash and two of the suspected smugglers were shot.

Obama commutes sentences of 58 convicts


US President Barack Obama on Thursday commuted the prison sentences of nearly 60 convicts, giving them a second chance in life.


Most of the convicts were incarcerated over non-violent drug offenses.

US, Turkey to continue to work together

The White House is indicating that it will continue to work with Turkey's government following the departure of Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.

He's reportedly leaving due to a rift with President Erdogan, and the U.S. has repeatedly expressed it's concern about the direction of Turkey's democracy.

Dozens killed in Syrian airstrike on refugee camp

It has not been confirmed if it was Syrian government fighter jets or Russian jets which dropped bombs on a refugee camp near the Turkish border.

The U.S. and Russia had worked to extend a cessation of hostilities more broadly across Syria, including Aleppo and Eastern Ghouta, but deadly violations contined.

Trump not likely to start receiving classified briefings

The White House is awaiting approval from the American intelligence community before granting classified briefings to Donald Trump, the presumed Republican nominee.

Traditionally, American presidential candidates start receiving regular briefings once they are formally the nominee, after the party conventions.

Donald Trump has said all sorts of things about foreign policy and international relations, and White House spokesman Josh Earnest indicated, he's not likely to receive those briefings any time soon.

Canadian officials hopeful over Alberta fire

Officials in Canada are expressing cautious optimism that they're slowly overcoming a massive wildfire in Alberta.


A state of emergency forced the evacuation of 80 thousand people from Fort McMurray and more than a thousand firefighters have been battling the blaze in a region that is home to Canada's oil sands industry.


Rachel Notley is the Premier of Alberta, and she told reporters that it's tough to predict when the blaze may be brought under control.
