Cruise ship departs Miami for Cuba

The first passenger cruise from the US to Cuba in more than 50 years has departed from Miami.

Carnival cruise lines' Fathom brand will sail to three ports on the island every two weeks after initially facing opposition from Cuba-born Americans.

Historic US cruise to set sail for Cuba

The first cruise ship to travel to Cuba from the US will set sail on Sunday from Miami [1930 GMT].

The Adonia, operated under Carnival's Fathom brand, will visit several ports on the island.

It's the first US cruise line to head to Cuba in more than 50 years.

China denies US aircraft carrier entry to port

China has refused entry to a US aircraft carrier trying to dock at a port in Hong Kong, according to the US State Department.

The carrier USS John C Stennis and its escort ships were blocked from landing for unknown reasons.

Body of Russian Syria hero flown to Moscow

The body of a Russian officer killed near Palmyra during a battle against Islamic State militants has been brought to Moscow from Syria.  The Russian defence ministry reported Alexander Prokhorenko's death on 24th March.  Julia Lyubova reports from Moscow.

Russia jails one of new Vostochny space center's construction managers

A manager responsible for construction works at Russia's new Vostochny space center was jailed in Russia on embezzlement charges. Colombia legalizes gay marriage

Colombia's top court has ruled in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage.

Same-sex couples in the South American country were already allowed to form civil partnerships, but had to prove they were in a long-term relationship in order to obtain legal benefits.

US Man Jailed in North Korea for Spying

A 62 year old naturalised US citizen has been sentenced to 10 years of hard labour in North Korea, after being charged with spying.

Kim Dong Chul, who was born in South Korea, was arrested last October and made an apparent confession in front of reporters last month in Pyongyang.

SOUTH AFRICA CORRUPTION CASE - SETBACK FOR ZUMA

INTRO: A court in South Africa says a decision to drop 783 corruption charges against President Jacob Zuma was "irrational" - and that the cases should be reviewed...


The charges date back to 1999 and are linked to a multibillion dollar arms deal.

President Jacob Zuma is in trouble again...


A South African court says a decision by the then chief state prosecutor to drop charges just a week before Jacob Zuma became president was irrational. 


The charges linked Zuma to a 1999 arms deal worth billions of dollars. 


Zuma denied the charges.


The Pretoria high court judge wants these charges reviewed - amid allegations so-called "spy tapes" reveal possible political interference in the original investigation. 


There has been an outpouring of outrage from the opposition…..demanding that Mr. Zuma steps down.


It's still not clear whether Zuma will appeal the ruling.


This is the latest in a run of setback for the president - last month, Zuma was found to have disobeyed the constitution after he failed to pay government money he used to upgrade his home.
