US regulators reject reform plans from US banks

US regulators have rejected reform plans submitted by five of the country's largest banks.

A 2010 financial reform package requires US banks to have a strategy for winding down its operations without taxpayer help.

Man arrested linked to Paris Jewish supermarket shootings in January

A man has been arrested in Spain suspected of supplying arms to a terrorist who killed five at a Jewish supermarket in Paris in January 2015.

The man was detained during a raid which involved both French and Spanish police.

'CELEBRITY THREESOME' HEARING SET FOR LONDON ON FRIDAY

New Jersey Judge Rules Ted Cruz IS A US Citizen

A judge in the US state of New Jersey has ruled that Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is indeed an American citizen and may run in the state's primary elections.

It comes after a group of residents challenged the Texas senator's eligibility to run, because he was born in Canada.

Russia sees WADA Meldonium amnesty decision as positive

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) said on Wednesday that the presence of less than one microgram of Meldonium in doping samples in tests conducted on athletes before 1 March 2016 is acceptable. Russia, whose sportsmen failed dope tests for Meldonium, said it welcomes the decision. Julia Lyubova reports from Moscow.

Migrant Rescue off the Italian Coast

Four thousand refugees and migrants have been rescued in the mediterranean sea from illegal boats by the Italian coastguard in the last two days.

Thousands of people are now making the more treacherous journey from the Libyan coast after the EU and Turkey closed the route from Turkey to Greece.

UK obesity epidemic fuelling rise in womb cancer, charity warns

Rising levels of obesity in the UK may be a key factor behind an increase in the number of women diagnosed with womb cancer.

That's according to the charity Cancer Research UK.

Figures show the number of cases of womb cancer have risen more than 50 percent in the last two decades, and some scientists suggest Britain's growing weight problem could be to blame.

UK MINISTER UNDER PRESSURE OVER RELATIONSHIP WITH ESCORT

Britain's culture minister has received the backing of Downing Street after it emerged he'd had a relationship with a sex worker.

The opposition Labour Party says it raises conflict-of-interest questions over John Whittingdale whose mandate as minister includes decisions over the regulation of the press.

Four newspapers knew about the relationship but didn't publish details.

John Whittingdale says he did not know the woman was an escort when he met her, and that the relationship ended before he became Culture Secretary.

German comedian under police protection after Turkey insult


The German comedian who insulted Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan by reading out an obscene poem about the President on television, has been placed under police protection.


It's not immediately clear whether a threat against the comedian has ben made, instead it appears the move is precautionary.

Jury To Decide If Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven' Riff Was Stolen

A U.S. jury will decide whether the opening section of rock band Led
Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven," one of the most famous songs in rock
history, was lifted from a lesser-known U.S. band called Spirit.
Zeppelin's lead singer Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page will face
