Closing arguments expected in trial of US veteran accused of supporting IS

Closing arguments are expected in the trial of a former US Air Force
Veteran who is accused of pledging his support to the self-proclaimed
Islamic State.

Tairod Nathan Webster Pugh was arrested in Turkey back in January 2015
after spending a year living in Egypt.

Int'l Women's Day: US activists denounce workplace policies

As the world marks International Women's Day, activists in the U.S. are pointing out that the American workplace hasn't kept up with changes in the workforce and family.

Correspondent Mary MacCarthy spoke to Linda Meric, the National Director of 9-5, an organization that fights for better workplace policies for women.

She said that, despite efforts by the Obama administration to reduce the gender wage gap, women still earn far less than men:

Increase in former Guantanamo prisoners rejoining militants

There's been a sharp increase in the number of Guantanamo Bay prisoners who have returned to fighting for militants after being released.  The news comes two weeks after the Obama administration announced plans to close the prison.

Maria Sharapova's Sponsors React to News of Failed Drug Test

Three of tennis star Maria Sharapova’s sponsors have moved quickly to suspend or sever their ties with her. 

The five time grand slam champion revealed on Monday she failed a drug test at the Australian Open in January.

US Missionary Gets 40 Years for Orphan Abuse in Kenya

A former American missionary has received a 40 year jail term for committing sex crimes at a Kenyan orphanage.

UN Expresses ‘Concern’ Over EU-Turkey Migrant Plan

The UN has expressed concern over a plan being discussed by Turkey and the European Union to deal with the huge number of migrants trying to reach Europe.

The proposal would see the EU pay for all migrants arriving in Greece to be sent back to Turkey, but for every Syrian sent back there, one Syrian already in the country would be resettled in Europe.

EU leaders near a deal with Turkey over migrant crisis

The European Union and Turkey have failed to reach a final agreement on how to deal with the migrant crisis but have agreed some broad principles following a lengthy summit.

The deal, which could be finalized next week, will see irregular migrants arriving in Greece returned to Turkey.  However for each migrant returned, Turkey wants the EU to accept a recognized refugee from Syria and offer more funding.   There are also plans to speed up the process by which Turkish citizens can travel within Europe freely.  

European Council President Donald Tusk says the proposed deal sends a  clear message that the days of irregular migration to Europe are over.   

Alexander Betts, Professor of Forced Migration and International Affairs  at Oxford University says the deal is a generous one for Turkey.

EU and Turkey Don't Reach Deal in Brussels

After a day of difficult negotiating and intensive back-and-fourths, European Union and Turkish leaders were unable to strike a deal at the EU-Turkey Summit.

Proposals were laid out on the table and debated, but all parties couldn't agree on a plan to try and ease the worst migrant crisis to hit Europe since World War II.

Tennis Star Maria Sharapova Admits To Failed Drug Test

Tennis Star Maria Sharapova held a press conference Monday in Los
Angeles to reveal she failed a doping test during the Australian Open
in January. The 28-year-old said she was not informed that a medicine
she had been taking for a decade to improve her health was added to a
list of banned substances for professional athletes.
